Alright, I’m far from an Olive Garden fan – to me, it is just another chain that isn’t worth my hunger. But damn, way to go 85-year-old Marilyn Hagerty, a food critic in North Dakota. This week, in her column The Eatbeat, Hagerty praised the quality and comfort of her town’s newest restaurant.
Her positive comments on Olive Garden’s “Tuscan farmhouse style” surroundings and her praise for the warm breadsticks and crisp salad did make me cringe a bit. But who am I to judge her? Everybody gets to decide what they want to eat AND what they choose to write about.
Apparently, not everybody thinks her praise is justified – foodies across the web were making fun of her nice review. She seems far from bothered by the negative feedback, but I hope that the food snobs of the world can get over themselves. I think that if an 85-year-old woman wants to do food reviews after more than 30 years as a reporter, let her do her thing no matter what restaurant it is!
